College Scholarships Awarded To Area Youth

May 2014Mid Century TeleCom awarded $9,000.00 in College Scholarships to local youth within its service area. Mid Century’s commitment to the communities it serves begins with its young people and the scholarship program is just one part of that. This year, in addition to the four $1,000.00 scholarships Mid Century sponsors annually, there were two $2,500.00 national scholarships sponsored by both Mid Century and the Foundation for Rural Service (FRS), the philanthropic arm of NTCA-The Rural Broadband Association. FRS received over 1500 applications and awarded just thirty six scholarships.

Mid Century TeleCom is pleased to announce the 2014 Scholarship Recipients:

MCTC $1,000.00 College Scholarship:
Erica Adkins, Summum – Astoria High School

Gracia Ramp, Yates City – Farmington High School
Daniel Smith, Victoria – ROWVA High School

FRS/MCTC $2,500.00 College Scholarship:

Sarah Jones, Marietta – Cuba High School

Scholarship recipients were selected by an independent team of reviewers from the education field outside the service area.

“Both the FRS and MCTC scholarship programs enable us as rural telecommunication providers to show our support to the youth living in the communities we serve. It is a source of tremendous pride for us and for the entire community”, states Jim Broemmer, CEO of Mid Century.

The scholarship programs are open to all graduating high school seniors that receive their telecommunication service and are active members of Mid Century.
