The City of Abingdon has been recognized as a Smart Rural Community by Mid Century Fiber and NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association in recognition of its commitment to leveraging broadband technology to support growth, innovation, and quality of life in the community.

Representatives from Mid Century Fiber and the Abingdon City Council celebrate Abingdon’s designation as a Smart Rural Community.

During a recent City Council meeting, representatives from Mid Century Fiber presented city leaders with a Smart Rural Community award and commemorative roadside signs that will be displayed throughout Abingdon.

The Smart Rural Community program is a national network of communities supported by innovative rural broadband providers, highlighting the vital role broadband plays in driving economic development, enhancing educational opportunities, expanding access to healthcare, improving energy efficiency, and strengthening the future of rural America.

Mid Century Fiber continues to expand its Smart Rural Community presence throughout the region, with additional communities expected to receive the designation in the coming months.
